Cervical Spine Pain - An Introduction

Cervical Spine Pain

The spine comprises the column of 33 bones and tissues. This spinal column extends from your skull and ends at the pelvis. The spine provides support to your skull and your body. The spine can be classified into three parts based on locations. The upper part of the spine is known as the cervical spine, the middle part is known as the thoracic spine, and the lower part is known as the lumbar spine. The pain in the upper part of the spine is known as the cervical spine pain.

Cervical spine pain can arise due to several reasons. Back injuries often lead to pain in the cervical spine. Another major cause of this pain is arthritis. It is found that extreme pain in the cervical spine often results from arthritis. Arthritis is the disorder of bones in which there is pain, swelling, and inflammation in the bones, the joints, and in the tissues that surround them. The vertebrae of the cervical spine tend to pain and swell in cervical spine pain. This causes a lot of inflammation and trouble to the patient. The major symptoms of the cervical arthritis that leads to cervical spine pain are:

* Extreme pain in the neck

* Pain in the process of motion of the neck

* Weakness in muscles

* Numbness in the neck, arms, and shoulders

* Tenderness in the neck

* Stiffness and restriction of movements along with acute pain

* Headache

* Inability to maintain a balance and a tendency to trip while walking

If you feel these symptoms in your body, you can be sure of the fact that you are afflicted with cervical spine pain. This pain usually arises due to cervical arthritis. This can cause you restlessness all the time.

Cervical vertebrae are very close to the skull. The pain in this part of the spine can lead to severe headaches as well. Several researches have proved that the degeneration of the cervical spine also leads to the disruption of the spinal cord and the nerve roots. The wear and tear in the cartilages of the cervical spine leads to the degeneration of and often also the dislocation of the vertebrae. This ultimately leads to chronic pain in the spinal cord.

Postponement or ignorance of cervical back pain can lead to serious trouble. Therefore, one must never ignore cervical back pain. These days, there are several treatments available for cervical back pain. You can also go in for surgery, in case your cervical back pain is severe. In case the pain is in the initial stages and not that severe, you can ask your physician to prescribe the correct medication for you so that you can get relieved from the torturous pain.
